MONDAY, FEBRUARY 28 AT 9:00AM PACIFIC. The California Energy Commission (CEC) will host a workshop to gather stakeholder feedback on potential medium- and heavy-duty (MD/HD) zero-emission vehicles infrastructure projects. The hydrogen refueling concept (item 2.a. on the agenda) includes light-duty infrastructure as well as MD/HDDuring the workshop, CEC staff will present proposals for future funding projects that will increase the charging and refueling infrastructure needed to support the deployment of zero-emission MD/HD vehicle technologies within the California freight system, transit bus fleets, school bus fleets, and other transportation sectors. These investments will further the goal of a convenient and accessible network of fueling infrastructure for all fleets and operators. A quorum of commissioners may participate, but no votes will be taken.

The workshop will be held remotely, consistent with Assembly Bill (AB) 361 (Rivas, Chapter 165, Statutes of 2021) as extended by Governor Newsom’s Executive Order N-1-22 to improve and enhance public access to state agency meetings during the COVID-19 pandemic. The public can participate in the workshop consistent with the direction provided below. Please note that the CEC aims to begin promptly at the start time posted and the end time is an estimate based on the agenda proposed. The workshop may end sooner or later than the posted end time depending on various factors.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 13 AT 10:00AM PACIFIC. Join CHBC's virtual meeting on Conversion of Natural Gas Pipelines to Hydrogen. With an ever increasing focus on decarbonizing the gas grid, blending hydrogen into the gas grid and converting gas pipelines to hydrogen are becoming options that are being considered in the U.S. and implemented in other countries. This panel will discuss California’s lack to take action, what other countries are doing, and why hydrogen pipelines are an option to keep the costs of transitioning to a renewable energy economy manageable.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 6 AT 10:00AM PACIFIC. Join CaFCP's Technical Manager Nico Bouwkamp at CHBC's virtual meeting on 200 Heavy Duty Hydrogen Stations by 2035. Globally, the heavy-duty sector accounts for less than 10 percent of the vehicle population, yet it contributes approximately 40 percent of vehicle-generated carbon emissions. This session will discuss policies to accelerate the deployment of heavy duty fuel cell vehicles, develop hydrogen fueling corridors, and the need for infrastructure funding. Panelists will also address the benefits of a focus on hydrogen powertrain and fueling infrastructure over that of other ZEV technologies in terms of cost, operational performance, and impact on grid assets.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 14 AT 10:00AM PACIFIC. SoCalGas® invites you to a webinar featuring Sandia National Laboratories, that will cover nanoscale metal hydride composites for efficient storage of hydrogen on board heavy-duty vehicles. These materials have the potential to store and deliver hydrogen at the right pressure and energy-density required to meet Department of Energy (DOE) targets. Hydrogen-powered fuel cell electric vehicles could help decarbonize the transportation sector and reduce emissions in high-traffic corridors such as the South Coast Air Basin.

Speakers:

Mark Allendorf: Dr. Mark D. Allendorf is Co-Director of the DOE Hydrogen Materials – Advanced Research Consortium (HyMARC) and a Senior Scientist at Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, California. Dr. Allendorf is past President and Fellow of The Electrochemical Society and has received Sandia awards for research, leadership, and teamwork, as well as a 2014 R&D100 Award.

Vitalie Stavila: Dr. Vitalie Stavila is a Task Lead in the DOE (HyMARC). A central theme in Dr. Stavila’s research is the rational design of new materials by changing the chemical composition, the arrangement of the atoms or molecules in crystalline or amorphous configurations, and the size, shape, and orientation of nanoparticles, crystals or other nano- or macroscopic units.
