The California Energy Commission (CEC) will host a public workshop to gather stakeholder feedback on potential funding concepts related to zero- and near-zero-carbon fuel production and supply. During the workshop, CEC staff will present proposals for future funding projects. CEC Commissioner Patty Monahan, Lead Commissioner on Transportation, may participate.

The workshop will be held remotely. The public can participate in the workshop consistent with the directions provided below and will have opportunities to provide comments. The CEC aims to begin promptly at the posted start time, and the end time is an estimate based on the proposed agenda. The workshop may end sooner or later than the posted end time depending on various factors.

As the world eagerly anticipates Net Zero 2050, groundbreaking energy alternatives like solar and wind have been popularized into the mainstream. Keith Malone brings more than 30 years of public relations and public affairs experience to the California Fuel Cell Partnership, a public-private partnership working to bring zero-emission, hydrogen-powered cars, buses, trucks and other forms of mobility to the Golden State. In addition to communications, he leads education and outreach efforts to legislators, NGOs and other public agencies, and represents CaFCP before news media and at public events. Prior to joining CaFCP, Keith helped multi-cultural nonprofit organizations, elected officials and political candidates communicate and build relationships with their stakeholders.

The U.S. Gulf Coast's existing energy infrastructure could give it a competitive advantage for clean hydrogen markets. Join us for our public webinar, Building the Gulf Coast Hydrogen Market, to hear from stakeholders in the region about their current and future economic trajectories for hydrogen production and infrastructure. Expert panels will discuss (1) how the Gulf Coast can leverage its existing hydrogen infrastructure and expertise for clean hubs, (2) how to best utilize the U.S. Department of Energy's hydrogen hub funding to establish a foundation for broader market formation, and (3) the role of current and potential hydrogen offtakers.

THURSDAY, MAY 19 - FRIDAY, MAY 20, JW MARRIOTT, WASHINGTON, D.C. The two-day event will bring together policymakers, utilities, green energy developers, oil and gas infrastructure companies, technology providers, industry experts and investors to present their perspectives, discuss early projects, and offer possible solutions in shaping the future of green hydrogen in the US. It will provide a platform to discuss and analyse the critical decisions needed to unlock the potential of green hydrogen in the US energy transition strategy.

Large-scale electrolyzers are expected to produce cost-competitive green hydrogen in the near future. Leading developers will showcase projects and present plans for producing green hydrogen. Technology providers will describe their innovations and solutions for ramping up production of green hydrogen.

While the production issues are being addressed, transport and storage of green hydrogen pose a huge challenge in the future. To address these, experts will present their solutions to build the needed infrastructure for transporting and storing green hydrogen.

The event will also feature sessions to discuss what's needed to build commercial-scale projects and explore the options and investor interest in financing these projects.

TUESDAY, MAY 31 AT 1:00PM PACIFIC. The 2022 Oregon Legislature directed the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality and the Oregon Department of Transportation to gather, review, and recommend incentives that are needed to support the transition to zero emission medium- and heavy-duty vehicles and the necessary charging or fueling infrastructure.

Industry and community stakeholders are key sources of information for this report and as such, ODEQ and ODOT will host a listening session on May 31st from 1-2 p.m. to hear from them.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 6 AT 8:00AM PACIFIC - The California Fuel Cell Partnership (CaFCP) is one of the biggest industry/government collaborations worldwide. California is a pioneer in hydrogen mobility. As of May 31, 13,806 fuel cell cars were sold and leased in the US, 66 fuel cell buses are in operation in California, 76 FCEBs are in development and 56 hydrogen stations are available.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 18 AT 12:00PM - PACIFIC. Hydrogen has the highest chemical activity of any fuel, is 75% of known mass in the universe, and reacts with oxygen from our atmosphere to form water. As such, hydrogen has always been the fuel of choice for both high performance and clean energy applications. So why are we still using inferior fuels? Logistics. Although hydrogen is the best of fuels by many measures, it is also the worst of fuels when it comes to storage and transport. Currently over 90% of small merchant hydrogen in North America is distributed via cryogenic liquid tanker truck. Once stored, parasitic heat transfer results in boil-off losses typically between 7-40%. This webinar breaks down the fundamentals of hydrogen storage and cooling with the potential to achieve zero-boil-off storage in a cost-effective way. Although many challenges remain to be solved, the purpose of this talk is to emphasize the new tools and opportunities making this cool fuel an exciting research area for several decades to come.
