Wednesday, November 2, 2022 - Wednesday, November 2, 2022

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 2 AT 1:00PM PACIFIC. This year’s annual energy conference focuses on the various influencers impelling energy transition and the trends therein. There is no question that energy innovation is as hot as it has ever been and, given recent funding, legislation, policy, ESG initiatives and investor and consumer demand, there is also very little question that it will only get hotter.

Speakers include key decision makers from corporations in various industries, innovators, public and private investment firms, government, agencies, utilities, banks, non-profits and other industry leaders.

Topics include electrification, hydrogen, Inflation Reduction Act, renewables, built environment, agriculture, grant incentives, investor trends, ESG and innovation.

Over the course of its twelve years, this event has attracted thousands and continues to be a launching point for key connections and collaborations leading to economic growth and solutions for Southern California’s evolving energy needs and sustainability goals.

The event concludes with an innovator showcase and networking to follow conference (5:00pm -7pm).]

Tuesday, November 15, 2022 - Tuesday, November 15, 2022

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 15 AT 10:00AM CENTRAL. Join moderator Kristine Wiley with GTI Energy expert Derek Wissmiller, PhD. Hydrogen has the potential to play a significant role in decarbonizing our energy systems. The carbon intensity of hydrogen production can vary considerably due to variations in performance and/or emissions associated with processes upstream of the hydrogen production facility.

GTI Energy has developed the Hydrogen Production Emissions Calculator (HyPEC), a user-friendly, online life cycle assessment (LCA) tool that empowers users to evaluate the carbon emissions intensity of various hydrogen production methods under varying assumptions and inputs. HyPEC provides quick access to credible LCA results by leveraging the GREET model, a widely recognized and established tool developed by the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Argonne National Laboratory. With this, HyPEC provides insights relative to the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), as the GREET model is referenced in the IRA hydrogen production tax credit.

Join us to learn how this publicly available and easy-to-use tool will facilitate productive, pragmatic conversations regarding the role of hydrogen in energy transitions.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 26 AT 2:00PM PACIFIC. Join us for a review and discussion of the California Air Resources Board’s 2022 Annual Evaluation of Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle Deployment and Hydrogen Fuel Station Network Development report. The evaluation offers several findings and data that will be presented and discussed during the briefing.

• California is expected to have more than 176 open-retail hydrogen fueling stations by 2026
• California may meet the Assembly Bill 8 (2013) goal of at least 100 stations by the end of 2023
• Planned network development will achieve the goals of AB 8 and narrow the gap in reaching the 200-station target set by Governor Brown in executive order B-48-18
• Analysis recently published by CARB demonstrates the potential for California’s hydrogen fueling network to achieve financial self-sufficiency by 2030.

Panelist: Andrew Martinez, California Air Resources Board

CHS - Hydrogen: The Importance of Collaboration for a Safe and Sustainable Future - October 19, 2022

Thursday, October 27, 2022 - Thursday, October 27, 2022

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 27 AT 10:00AM. SoCalGas® and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) invite you to a webinar to learn about an innovative metal-supported solid oxide fuel cell (MS-SOFC) that can be used for clean power generation and electrolytic hydrogen production. Unique features of the MS-SOFC include low materials cost based on stainless steel, ability to start up very quickly from cold to operating temperature, mechanical strength, tolerance to dynamic and aggressive operation, and tolerance to sulfur.

These features enable MS-SOFCs to be used in fast-start and dynamic applications that are too aggressive for conventional SOFCs, including backup power, vehicle range extenders, and chemical conversions using intermittent renewable power. In this seminar we will introduce LBNL’s MS-SOFC technology and use cases for natural gas consumption and hydrogen production. We will also discuss the recent work that LBNL completed with assistance from SoCalGas RD&D, DOE Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Technology Office (HFTO), and Advanced Research Project Agency - Energy (ARPA-E) to fabricate and demonstrate MS-SOFCs with catalysts tailored for each of these applications.
