Friday, January 15, 2021 - Friday, January 15, 2021

FRIDAY, JANUARY 15 AT 11:00AM EST. There is a vast and growing overproduction of electricity from solar and wind, but solar in particular, across the country, especially in the Southwest. Utilities are in a rush to find ways of saving this electricity and balancing their systems. Batteries and other storage systems are all on the table, along with what may have the most promise: green hydrogen. This is hydrogen made by electrolysis, using surplus electricity. The Europeans are ahead of us, but more and more U.S. utilities are looking at hydrogen as the companion to alternative fuels. The briefing will be moderated by syndicated columnist and broadcaster Llewellyn King. Sheila Hollis, USEA Acting Executive Director, will give opening remarks. General audience will be allowed to participate in questioning, but news outlets will be given preference. Following the event, a recording will be available on the USEA website.

Tuesday, January 12, 2021 - Tuesday, January 12, 2021

TUESDAY, JANUARY 12 AT 3:00PM ESTClimate change is a threat to national security. President-elect Biden’s creation of the Special Presidential Envoy for Climate Change and Secretary John Kerry’s appointment to the office is a clear signal to the world that he recognizes climate change is a threat to national security and is serious about reigniting U.S. climate diplomacy to mitigate the threat.

The Biden administration’s international climate efforts will be driven by competition and cooperation. The U.S. must prepare for climate-driven geopolitical competition, but also work with international partners to dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI), Norwegian Ambassador to the U.S. Ambassador Anniken Krutnes, Vice Admiral Lee Gunn, USN (Ret.), and ASP Director of Climate and Energy Security Alex Hackbarth will discuss what climate competition and cooperation may look like in the Biden administration in a panel moderated by ASP COO Andrew Holland.

Thursday, January 28, 2021 - Thursday, January 28, 2021

THURSDAY, JANUARY 28 FROM 2:00PM - 3:00PM EST. Recent years have seen a reawakened interest in hydrogen fuel cell and water electrolyzer technology, with an important economical driver being the continuously lowered costs for intermittent renewal electricity generation from wind and solar. Modeling and simulation are important tools in the design and development of these electrochemical systems.

Join our speaker Henrik Ekström on the upcoming Modeling and Simulation of Fuel Cells and Electrolyzers live Webinar January 28 to learn about fuel cell and electrolyzer technologies and the modeling of these devices and processes using simulation software. Henrik will also be available for a live Q&A at the end.

LEARN MORE AND REGISTER

Here's what you will learn about:

• Principal functionality of hydrogen fuel cells, water electrolyzers, and industrial electrolyzers
• Benefits of using simulation for designing and optimizing electrochemical cells
• Multiphysics modeling for including multiphase fluid flow, heat transfer, thermodynamics properties, and more
• Investigation of fuel cell and electrolyzer performance at different operating conditions for different electrode configurations, membranes, separators/diaphragms, current collectors and feeders, materials, and chemistry
... and more!

SPEAKER:Henrik Ekström,Technology Manager for Electrochemistry COMSOL.

Prior to joining COMSOL in 2010, Henrik worked at various fuel cell startup firms in Sweden. He received his PhD in chemical engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm.

This webinar is sponsored by COMSOL and reflects their views, opinions, and insights. Attendance to this webinar is free.

Tuesday, January 7, 2020 - Thursday, January 7, 2021

THURSDAY, JANUARY 7, 2021 FROM 9:00AM- 12:00PM PT. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) invites you to participate in a Webinar/Teleconference work group meeting on the implementation of Fiscal Year (FY) 2020-21 policy for the Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP) from the Board-approved FY 2020-21 Funding Plan for Clean Transportation Incentives (Funding Plan). Each year, staff conducts additional public process following Board approval of the Funding Plan to discuss implementation of approved policies and other administrative issues. In addition, staff will describe anticipated protocol to successfully reopen the project after more than a year of closure for new voucher requests. The meeting agenda is available.

Background
The Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP): HVIP is the cornerstone of CARB’s advanced technology heavy-duty incentives, providing funding since 2010 to support the long-term transition to ZEVs in the heavy-duty market, as well as supporting investments in other emerging technology to achieve substantial greenhouse gas reductions and help meet health-based ambient air quality standards. Voucher incentives complement other programs in CARB’s heavy-duty funding portfolio by providing a streamlined application process without requiring scrapping of an existing vehicle. HVIP achieves both immediate emission reductions and, as emphasized in Governor Newsom’s Executive Order N-79-20, supports the transformation of California’s vehicle and equipment fleet to zero-emitting where feasible.
The FY 2020-21 Funding Plan, approved by the Board on December 10, 2020, allocated $25 million of AQIP funds to HVIP and made several changes to project criteria. The policy modifications approved by the Board include lowering annual fleet voucher caps, introducing a rolling “soft” voucher cap for manufacturers, streamlined voucher tables and revised amounts, modified vehicle classification and eligibility criteria, and graduating conventional natural gas internal combustion engines.
